Oil painting on canvas is the creation of the fine art image by the artist on canvas, during process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium usually with linseed oil.
Traditionally for creation of an oil painting on canvas artists use linen canvas - fabrics made from flax fibers with dense coarse-grained weaving. However for creation of an oil painting on canvas with fine details artists often use fine-grained weaving canvas.
The important step in creation of an oil painting on canvas is preparation of surface applying the ground on it. The classical sample of a ground is an animal or bone glue as a first layer, and then the same glue mixed with pigments. But in modern painting artists usually use modern acrylic "gesso" is made of titanium dioxide with an acrylic binder. Prior putting a pigment of a surface the sketch is created. And the last step of the creation of an oil painting on canvas is the painting process, which is usually made by oil pigments, turpentine, brushes, and palette knife. Oil painting on canvas has a long drying process, that lasts from 1 to a few years.
