Oil painting is the creation of the fine art image by the artist during process of painting with pigments that are bound with a medium usually with linseed oil. Often an oil, such as linseed was boiled with a resin such as pine resin and were called 'varnishes'. Other oils are used are walnut oil, sunflower oil,Êpoppy seedÊoil.
The preparation process of an oil painting creation includes certain steps.
First the surfaces has to be prepared. Most known surfaces are wood and canvas. But usually artists used wooden panel, cardboard, linoleum, and even the paper.
Second the grunt should be applied to surface. Grunt usually contains animal glue and pigment. Then the artist creates sketch of the image with charcoal, prior to applying pigment to the surface.
And the last step of creation of oil painting is the painting process, which is usually made by oil pigments, turpentine, brushes, and palette knife.
Oil painting has a long drying process, that lasts from 1 to a few years.
